A live-action TV series based on League of Legends (LoL) may soon come to life, with Vietnam as a key filming spot. Riot Games, the developer behind the hit game, plans to shoot a nine-episode show in Cát Bà by 2025 with The Last of Us producer Rose Lam leading the project. The Vietnamese government confirmed that Riot’s team recently visited the area to assess its fit for the show.
As fans get excited for the upcoming LoL live-action series, gaming and entertainment are growing closer. While people wait for the show, there are many ways to be excited for the game’s film production. Platforms like Sportsbet io casino and sportsbook offer great odds for betting on various LoL esports teams, enhancing the anticipation for fans.
Riot Scouts Vietnam For Filming
On March 10, 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng met with Riot’s production team and voiced his support for the project.
During the meeting, Lam explained that Riot had explored other Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea, and Thailand, before choosing Vietnam. He said that Cát Bà is a highly feasible site for its scenic coastlines, misty cliffs, and rich landscapes.
Nicholas Simon, CEO of Indochina Productions, also joined the meeting. He praised Vietnam’s rising fame as a film hub, calling it a priority among other choices for global productions.
Simon pointed to the country’s stable film audience and growing tourism as key reasons for its appeal. He called the League of Legends project a huge chance to promote Vietnam on the world stage.
Government Supports With Conditions
While Vietnam backed the project, it made clear that local rules and natural laws must be followed. Minister Hùng stressed that the nation welcomes global production but will not put its land or wildlife at risk. He warned that Cát Bà, a UNESCO site, must be shielded from harm and they would not trade Vietnam’s nature for money.
At the same time, the government promised to help smooth the process for the crew. Authorities in Hai Phong will work with Riot to handle permits and logistics. Hùng also hinted at Visa perks for the film team, which could speed up production. He explained that the government may ease entry rules for foreign crews to attract more big projects.
Speculation On The Plot And Setting
Riot has not shared details about the show’s plot or its setting. However, fans are already making guesses. Since Cát Bà is known for its rocky shores and misty waters, many believe the series could focus on water-based regions from Runeterra, the game’s fantasy world.
The two most likely regions are Bilgewater and Shadow Isles. Bilgewater is a lawless port filled with sea raiders and smugglers, which would suit Cát Bà’s rugged scenery. Shadow Isles, with its ghostly fog and dark shores, could also be a fitting match. Both regions would allow the show to use the island’s dramatic coastlines and eerie cliffs to create a striking backdrop.
Riot’s Growing Media Expansion
The live-action series is part of Riot’s push to expand its media arm. Recently, the company split its team into two studios: one for animation, led by Christian Linke, and one for live-action, led by Brian Wright.
Boosting Vietnam’s Film And Tourism Scene
The Vietnamese government sees this project as a way to raise the country’s profile in film and tourism. Minister Hùng believes the show will give Vietnam rare exposure on the global stage. He stressed that through Hollywood’s reach, the country could showcase its natural beauty and culture to a wide audience.
Hùng also noted that promoting Vietnam through film could bring long-term benefits. With more international crews filming in the country, tourism could grow, and local industries could thrive. He said that they aim to boost Vietnam’s cinema and help grow the economy through Hollywood.
What Comes Next For Vietnam?
While Riot Games has not confirmed a release date or cast details, the project has already stirred interest. With Vietnam’s dramatic coastlines and potential to become a film spot, the series could offer fans a fresh and stunning take on LoL. If it succeeds, it may also open the door for more major productions in the region.
The spotlight on Vietnam’s film scene is also catching the eye of brands like Sportsbet.io. As gaming pulls in more fans, programs tied to known platforms are growing fast. With the LoL series set to boost the game’s reach, Sportsbet io affiliates could gain more partners from the rising wave of gaming fans.
